In the Qing dynasty, Emperor Qianlong was known for his love of music and poetry. He even composed a few poems himself under the pen name "Qianxuan". One day, he decided to test the musical talents of his officials by asking them to compose songs in various styles. Unbeknownst to him, one official had never learned how to read or write music before! He managed to pass the test by using a clever trick – he asked another musician friend to secretly help him with composing the tunes.
The Forbidden City's Hidden Gardens
The Forbidden City is famous for its grand halls and imposing architecture but did you know that it also has hidden gardens? During the Ming dynasty, these secret gardens were used as escape routes for royalty during times of war or rebellion.
