在一片层峦叠嶂的马鞍山中，有一处蜿蜒而下的特别长的山脉，横亘于溪流之中，宛如一个巨龙正在潭中饮水。然而，这条龙被一条深邃的断裂地壑截断了，它的颈部深约20多米，上宽下窄，一块石头据说是神仙用扁担从上面滚落嵌入其中。这就是仙都风景名胜区内所称的截脽岭。人们不禁好奇：那位神仙为何要将这个龙头截断？
传说，在很古远的时候，玉皇大帝派遣赤脚大仙巡视凡间，除暴安良。大仙驾云游历三山五岳。一日来到仙都上空，看见了一座小村庄——尤其是村中的那座四合院上空祥云缤纷，瑞气盈庭。大仙惊叹：“这必定将出天子！”但他也明白，只有善良的人才能当君，他必须探明此家人的德行。
于是，大仙变成一个乞丐，以观察的心态潜入村庄。他先后敲门求食，但遭到了拒绝和欺凌，最终在西瓜皮旁啃得垂涎欲滴时，被财主家的狗咬伤。大蛇心痛，对这户人如此骄横无德，如果真有皇帝，他们百姓还能过好日子？愤怒之下，大蛇抽出灵魂，用扁担割断了龙颈，将龙头截开了。 villagers were shocked, and the "beggar" in the cloud revealed his true identity as a god.
