Chang'e and the Moon Palace
The Legend of Chang'e and the Moon Palace
In ancient Chinese mythology, there lived a beautiful goddess named Chang'e who resided in the moon palace. She was known for her extraordinary beauty and magical powers that could heal any sickness or injury. Chang'e's story is one of love, betrayal, and solitude.
The Origins of Chang'e
According to legend, Chang'e was once a mortal woman who lived during the reign of Emperor Shun in ancient China. She fell deeply in love with a handsome man named Hou Yi, who was known for his archery skills. Their love story began when they met at an archery competition where Hou Yi won first place by shooting down nine suns that threatened to destroy Earth.
Their Love Affair
Hou Yi and Chang'e married soon after their meeting. However, their happiness did not last long as they were betrayed by one of Hou Yi's apprentices named Pang Meng who coveted his master's fame and fortune. The apprentice learned about an elixir that granted immortality from another immortal being called Xiwangmu (Queen Mother of Heaven). He stole this elixir intending to use it himself but accidentally gave it to Pang Meng instead.
The Tragic Consequences
Consuming the elixir made Pang Meng instantly immortal but also rendered him incredibly powerful causing him immense pride leading him into arrogance which ultimately led to his downfall as he became arrogant towards other gods causing them anger against him so he fled back into hiding while changing form many times until finally returning back as human again living out rest of life peacefully never trying anything else dangerous again because afraid getting caught by other gods anymore since then on pang meng never tried anything dangerous ever again after becoming mortal once more due this incident happening over 3000 years ago before civilization existed yet still people remember today remembering how great chang e truly loved hou yi till death do us part just like most lovers feel all around world now days too!
