而今,该地区文物考古专家通过走访调查和文献研究,也证实了当年确实有部分来自山东省海阳县的 东 surname residents migrated to the village of Liqiji in Changhe, Zhenjiang.
The villagers' genealogy records reveal that their ancestors were descendants of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang. The genealogical records are meticulously kept and contain stories passed down through generations about the family's history. However, today, no one pays much attention to these legends; they are simply proud of their ancestors who once held imperial power.
According to Zhang Dejun, a cultural officer from the Cultural Department of Changhe City, "The practice of 'worshipping four directions' is an important criterion for identifying whether someone is a descendant of Zhu Yuanzhang or not." This custom involves burning paper offerings during traditional festivals and making wishes towards four different directions – east, west, south and north – as a way to honor one's ancestors who were distributed throughout China during the Ming dynasty.
While this story may seem like a legend or myth at first glance, it has been confirmed by historical documents that some members of the royal family did indeed flee and change their names during that tumultuous period. Therefore, while there is still room for debate regarding this claim’s accuracy and legitimacy within academia circles.
