Change Ascends to the Moon The Legend of Chinas Lu
Introduction
In ancient Chinese mythology, there exists a fascinating tale about Chang'e, the celestial goddess who ascended to the moon. This legend has been passed down for generations and continues to captivate people with its beautiful story and profound meaning. In this article, we will delve into the world of Chinese folklore and explore the captivating story of Chang'e.
The Origins of Chang'e
According to Chinese mythological records, Chang'e was once a mortal woman named Zhāng Yè who lived during the reign of Emperor Shun in ancient China. She was known for her extraordinary beauty and intelligence. One day, while trying an elixir of immortality that she had found in her garden, she accidentally consumed it instead of giving it away as intended.
As a result, Zhāng Yè became immortal but also lost her husband due to his jealousy over her newfound powers. To escape from his wrath and find peace after losing everything dear to her, Zhāng Yè fled heavenward by riding on a magic turtle shell propelled by 108 staves made from peach wood trees.
Ascending to Heaven
Zhāng Yè reached heaven but could not find any place suitable for living among mortals or gods alike. Eventually, she came across an old man who offered her shelter at his humble abode in one corner of heaven called "Moon Palace". After settling down in Moon Palace with two loyal companions – a jade rabbit named Yin-Yang (Yin-yang) and another companion named Wencheng - Zhāng Yè spent most days weaving silk clouds using threads spun from spider silk.
The Jade Rabbit & Wencheng
Yin-yang is said to have been created by Zhāng herself when she discovered him injured near some flowers during one night's wanderings through paradise gardens outside Moon Palace walls; later transformed into an immortal creature capable only eating 'jade' leaves which grow exclusively within their realm under starlight conditions (which makes them unattainable without divine intervention). Yin-yang spends most days resting on their throne carved out from pure white jade stone inside palace grounds while making sure they do not disturb other heavenly inhabitants' peace nor bother God himself ever since getting caught up chasing after divine messenger birds trying hard keeping distance between themselves because if caught doing something bad they would lose eternal life along with all loved ones!
Wencheng is believed by many scholars today as being just another name given upon reaching immortality level status amongst various celestial beings including those dwelling within lunar realms; others claim that he might be yet another transformation form taken up by main character either way both figures are seen together throughout entire history connecting them even though they aren't always mentioned side-by-side consistently throughout these tales so far recorded history goes!
