Nüwa Repairs Heaven: A Goddess's Gift for Humanity's Salvation
The Chinese mythology is a treasure trove of stories that have been passed down through generations, each with its own unique lessons and morals. One such story is that of Nüwa, the goddess who repaired heaven and saved humanity from extinction.
Creation Myth
In the beginning, there was only chaos in the universe. The heavens were broken into pieces and floating in mid-air. This state of disarray lasted for nine days until Pangu, a cosmic giant, emerged to separate yin from yang (the dark from the light) by pushing his right hand up towards the sky and his left hand down towards earth. This separation created the firmament between heaven and earth.
After Pangu's death, he was transformed into two halves - one half became heaven while another half turned into earth. However, this newly formed world was not stable as it continued to crumble due to constant conflicts between different celestial bodies.
Enter Nüwa
It was at this critical juncture that Nüwa stepped forward to save her creation. She used five-colored stones (red sandalwood stone for fire prevention; green jade stone for water control; white marble stone for wind regulation; yellow amber stone for metal balance; black obsidian stone for earth stability) which she had gathered from all corners of her realm to repair heaven.
She climbed Mount Kunlun on foot while carrying these stones on her back before ascending into space using clouds as bridges between mountainsides along her way up toward heaven's gateways – an incredible feat given women were traditionally considered weak in ancient Chinese culture.
