The Epic of Chang'e: A Tale from Ancient Chinese Mythology
The Origin of Chang'e and the Moon Goddess Legend
In ancient Chinese mythology, there was a legendary tale about a goddess named Chang'e who resided on the moon. Her story dates back to the Han Dynasty, around 2nd century BCE. According to legend, Chang'e was once an ordinary woman who lived in the mortal realm with her husband, Hou Yi. She was renowned for her beauty and her exceptional archery skills.
One day, Hou Yi shot down nine suns that had appeared in the sky at once, saving humanity from destruction. As a reward for his bravery, he received an elixir of immortality that could grant him eternal life if consumed. However, before he could drink it himself or share it with others out of benevolence as well as jealousy from those who wanted immortality themselves led by ten celestial gods known as "ten suns" among them were jealous people seeking power and wealth they conspired against Hou Yi.
Chang'e discovered this plot and decided to consume half of the elixir herself while hiding it in her apricot tree garden so she would become immortal too but not be able to ascend into heaven like other gods because she still loved her mortal husband whom she knew wouldn't be able to join her up there since only pure-hearted individuals can achieve immortality through consuming such divine potions according to mythological beliefs.
Consuming even just half an ounce (about 3 grams) would make one immortal but also leave them vulnerable due mainly because their soul might not return properly after death which is what happens when one ascends into heaven - their soul returns fully intact; however upon becoming immortal without ascending into heaven - their souls are left behind making them unable interact or communicate with other spirits including deceased family members resulting loneliness being trapped between worlds permanently forever separated never truly reunited again no matter how much love remains unfulfilled longing ever-lasting sorrow eternally trapped within timelessness itself
As soon as Chang'e consumed half of the elixir's content—her body began glowing radiantly revealing its magical nature—she soared up towards heavens' entrance where all beings enter & exit entering heavenly realms; yet finding herself barred by divine authorities due solely because she didn't ascend alone causing many problems regarding purity & intentions amongst higher powers leading ultimately leading Heavenly authorities refusing entry thus banishing chang-e away forevermore forcing her onto lunar surface now residing there ever since
Her spirit became lost during attempts at reaching paradise transforming into celestial wanderer living on moon until this very moment henceforth regarded highly revered respected admired cherished honored adored beloved throughout entire world especially China where tales are passed down generations ago creating legends shared stories told over fireside gatherings inspiring awe amazement fascination curiosity enchantment wonderment joy excitement peace tranquility happiness serenity calmness inner strength courage perseverance determination resilience faith hope unity harmony unity cooperation community teamwork camaraderie friendship love care compassion empathy understanding wisdom knowledge growth learning development personal growth spiritual journey self-discovery introspection contemplation reflection meditation mindfulness gratitude appreciation thankfulness forgiveness mercy kindness generosity giving sharing caring nurturing healing recovery restoration redemption salvation enlightenment illumination inspiration creativity imagination innovation progress evolution transformation metamorphosis renewal rejuvenation revival rebirth resurrection resurrection
