女娲补天的神话故事冬风神印第安风情绘卷
很久以前，奇努克人遭遇了从未有过的严寒。地面上的积雪深达半身高，春天降临时，冰雪依旧未融，河中冰层裂开，小块浮动在水面上发出低沉的轰鸣声。在一连串无休止的狂风暴雨中，一只雪鸟带着红色块根飞来，在人们惊恐之下，将那块物品扔在了白茫茫的雪地。就在此时，此刻，大部分地区已经迎来了春天，而他们却仍被严冬所困。
人们聚集于首领召集的地方——部族议事厅，以探讨为何冬季似乎永远不会过去，以及如何才能赶走这漫长的寒冷。争论不休后，一位最为年迈的长者站起身来提醒大家：“记得先辈们曾讲述，如果有人用石头打击鸟类，那么会持续不断地下大雪或许是谁家孩子使用石头打击鸟类。”于是，他们决定让全体儿童集合至会场进行单独审问，每个孩子都否认自己曾经用石头打过鸟，但指向一个小女孩说：“是她做的！”
老人询问那个女孩是否确实如此，她害怕而坦白承认了自己的行为。她和她的父母陷入绝望等待着领导们作出判决。一番商讨后，大首领宣布将女儿嫁给“冬风神”，以此换取温暖回归。
尽管小姑娘和她的父母感到悲痛，但他们明白为了众人的利益牺牲一个生命是必要的。而当领导们带走她时，全村民送去丰厚礼物作为对养育之恩的一种补偿。当那片巨大的浮冰载着准备好盛装的小姑娘漂向下游，岸边的人们伴随着哭泣、咒语和撞击声目送她离去。
随着时间推移，当风暖了、雪化了、花朵绽放时，他们相信先祖的话语准确无误。大约一年之后，当再次降临的大雾纷飞与滴水成冰 winters return, they once again gather at the winter camping grounds. One day, as the elderly gaze out upon the ice floes drifting down the river, they spot a peculiar sight: a floating ice slab in mid-stream seems to be carrying something on its surface.
A young man dispatched to investigate returns with news that it appears to be a person. The villagers use long wooden poles to pull the ice slab ashore and find sitting atop it none other than their beloved daughter who had been sent off to marry Winter's god. They carefully wrap her in warm furs and place her near the fire, where she awakens from her slumber.
From that day forward, she could walk barefoot through snowdrifts without feeling any cold or discomfort. The people came to recognize her extraordinary abilities as a gift bestowed by Winter's god herself. Thus did they call her Wacani – "the girl on an ice floe."
