The Background
In ancient China during the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD), a young man named Xu Xian lived in the city of Qingyang. He was an honest and kind-hearted individual who worked hard to support his family. His life took an unexpected turn when he met a mysterious woman named Bai Suzhen, also known as The White Snake.
Bai Suzhen: The Enigmatic Heroine
Bai Suzhen was not just any ordinary woman; she was actually a powerful white snake spirit who had taken on human form to escape her demonic master's wrath. She fell deeply in love with Xu Xian and decided to remain by his side forever.
Xu Xian's Transformation
As Bai Suzhen continued her life as a human, she eventually married Xu Xian without revealing her true nature. Their marriage brought them great happiness until they were confronted by Zhu Wuneng—a monk from Mount Emei—alongside his loyal disciple Tang Sanzang.
Zhu Wuneng & Tang Sanzang: The Foils
Zhu Wuneng was determined to expose Bai Suzhen's true identity as a demoness and prove that she had deceived Xu Xian into marrying her under false pretenses. Tang Sanzang served as both Zhu Wuneng's foil and moral compass throughout their journey together.
